Climate Action Planning -- Make your voice heard!

The UMBC Climate Action Plan (CAP) is a guiding document that outlines goals and strategies to help our institution reduce greenhouse gas emissions and prepare for climate change.  UMBC's Office of Sustainability administers the CAP, and is working to update the UMBC CAP in 2025.  The CAP update is managed by dedicated working groups of students, faculty, and staff, with input from senior campus leaders.

Check out our historical 2020 CAP on the web. The 2020 CAP focused on 5 key areas:
  • Energy
  • Transportation
  • Waste
  • Academics & Engagement
  • Climate Resilience

This survey gives you the opportunity to provide anonymous feedback on the goals and aspirations of the existing CAP.  All responses are optional.  If you prefer to give feedback in other ways, the Office of Sustainability also hosts bi-weekly office hours and dedicated listening sessions.  Look for our notifications on the Sustainability Matters myUMBC page and in our Sustainability Newsletter.

Why is the CAP Important?  It helps us:

  1. Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Establish goals to lower the university's carbon footprint and move toward carbon neutrality.
  2. Promote Sustainability: Encourage sustainable practices across campus operations, academics, and student life.
  3. Engage the Campus Community: Foster collaboration and participation from students, faculty, and staff.
  4. Meet Regulatory and Institutional Goals: Align with state, national, and global climate targets, ensuring compliance and leadership.
